La Savoie is back on the water!
La Savoie sailing boat was launched on Thursday, 26th of March. An unforgettable memory for those who were present while the two cranes, of 220 tons and 300 tons each, belonging to the company SMMI from PONT DE CLAIX (38), lifted the boat and placed her on the water. Both crane operators did a marvellous job as they moved the 80 tons empty Barque with great ability and skill. She gently went back into the lac Léman's water. Chantier Bernard's carpenters and the Association's volunteers followed closely the launching of La Savoie.
La Savoie had her masts put back on 28th of March. Both "General motors" engines started up on first attempt! The volunteers have been working relentlessly to completely refit the boat. The remaining 17 tons ballast will be soon replaced in the boat.
After this final step is done, we will be delighted to see La Savoie sail again on Lac Léman.
The first stage of these works is now finished, and we already have to think about the second stage which will start at the end of this summer. In spite of financial help provided by the Public Authorities, private funds and the Heritage foundation, we are still missing the sum of 350 000 euros to achieve the works.
More than ever, Barque La Savoie needs your help !
So please, do not hesitate to send us a donation through the Heritage Foundation.
