The Construction Work
3 years were necessary to build the Barque, i.e. from summer 1997 to 10th of June 2000. Each year, more than 30.000 visitors came to see the works proceeding. To date, LA SAVOIE is the largest heritage sailboat rebuilt in France. The construction was based on plans laid out by P.A. REYMOND, a naval architect from Lausanne (CH), thanks to original plans (1903) found by some miracle in the attic of the last Léman barques' builder's grandson. The same tools and materials were used such as local woods, adze, planes and special carpenters' knifes, to sculpt and adjust the pieces of wood necessary for the construction.
